In addition to help keep overhead vessels at bay and making it easier for boat to locate you, it’s also much simpler to see you from a distance in an event that you drift off and become lost.
A bright colored SMB is much easier to spot in the vast blue water. Shinning your torch against the SMB can also help rescuers to find you in the dark or even during heavy rain.
