Trang Province

Trang, a province known as "Muang Tub Tiang" in the old days, is situated on the southern part of Thailand along the Indian Ocean coast. The area became more popular as it gains business from being a center of transportation from other area to the major city of the South, Nakorn Sri Thammarat.

Trang province has long earned its high reputation on agricultural production, particularly on Bara Wood and Rubber. Such production has brought major income to the province as well as the Thai economy. Aside from being a center for Rubber production, Trang is also well known for being a new tourist destination among those who love to explore the beauty of nature at low-key commercial towns. Next to the breathtaking clear water, white sand beach, scenic islands and magnificent seascape, tourists find Trang a paradise-on-earth that exhibits abundant natural architectures including falls, springs, mountains, jungles, caves and caverns. Loaded with hidden treasures of paradise yet to be explored, Trang is then a raw jewel of the South.

Map & Diving Destination

Off the coast from Trang, there are numbers of well-preserved islands waiting for travelers to explore. Pearl Island (Koh Muk) is the island where visitor can swim through a small channel on the east side of the island that leads to a hidden lagoon inside the magnificent Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot). The name Emerald Cave comes from the emerald-colored water of the lagoon when expose to direct sunlight. Surrounding the lagoon, there is a small-sized of white sand beach for visitors to relax and enjoy the spectacular view of inner surrounded towering cliff faces. Koh Kradan, the location for performing underwater weddings, is the world-renowned island that is famous for its long and powder-white sand beach, crystal clear water and complete hard corals sanctuary. Koh Van, Koh Chuak and Koh Ma are small islands where visitors will enjoy diving or snorkeling with colorful soft corals and friendly reef fish.

Dive Site: Koh Kradan

Located on the west of Koh Muk and Koh Libong, Koh Kradan is the most beautiful island of Trang. Most area of the island belong to Chao Mai National Park. Some part of the island is occupied by local privates and develop it into Bara Wood and Coconut Trees cultivation, restaurants and resorts. Koh Kradan is surrounded by powder-white sand beach and crystal clear water. Just small distance off the beach, there lies from north beach to south a complete sanctuary of shallow water corals and colorful reef fish. Accessibility is easy and convenient by 1.30 hour direct ferry from Pak Meng Pier, mainland. There are some resorts that provide simple accommodation on the island.

Topography
The geographical area of Trang covers 4,941 square kilometers on land and 46 islands in Andaman Sea. Trang's provincial terrain is occupied with different sizes of hills and mountains, which left only small area for plateau. Most mountains and hills are covered with tropical forest and jungles, whereas visitors can also find mangrove forests near the coast line. On the east side, Mt. Bantad stretches from north to south, being a natural border between Trang and Pattalung province. Mt. Bantad also originates Pa-lian River, an important river for agricultural production. The main river of the province, however, is Trang River, which was originated from Mt. Luang.

By Car
There are 2 options for visitors who want to visit Trang by car. First, visitors can use Highway No. 4 Bangkok-Chumporn heading south and exit to Route 41 Surat Thani - Thung Song - Huay Yod - Trang, total distance is 828 kilometers. Second option is using Highway 4 heading south from Bangkok via Chumporn, Ranong, Pang-Nga, Krabi and Trang, total distance is 1,020 kilometers.

By Bus
From Bangkok to Trang, both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buses leave the Southern Bus Terminal (Southbound) in Bangkok daily. By Train
There are 2 types of railway services providing daily transportation from Bangkok to Trang, namely Fast Train and Express Train. The rail track is 870 kilometers long. Regular Fast Train (with stops at every station) takes approximately 15 hours from Bangkok to reach Trang Province.
