Chumporn Province
Introduction
The port city of 'Chumphon' is considered the gateway to the south of Thailand. The long history was begun 600 years ago. Chumphon used to be the border town of Nakron Sri Thammarat, the most important southern city of Ayutthaya Kingdom. Along its 222 kilometers coastline, there are several beautiful beaches and bays as well as offshore islands. Chumphon also abounds in fruit plantation and thick forest where the number of waterfalls and caves are hidden.
Diving Sites in Chumphon
More than 40 islands are in the compound of Chumphon Marine National Park. Among all, the famous dive spots are at 1) Koh Ngam Yai, 2) Koh Ngam Noi, 3) Koh Thong Lang, 4) Koh Maprow, 5) Koh La Wa and 6) Koh Thalu. These sites are good for either scuba diving or snorkeling. The beautiful and abundant of coral communities are well-known among tourists. Koh Lan Ped is also the area where there are opportunities for whale shark sighting.
Koh Ngam Yai
The island is 17 kilometers distance from mainland towards the south of Ao Thung Wua Laen. Access to the island is restricted to those who received concessions for Bird's nests collection and a small group of local fishermen. Soft coral, hard coral, rock edges and sea caves are major attractions of this dive site. This is one of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand.

Koh Ngam Noi
Located
at the south of Koh Ngam Yai, which is 17 kilometers distance from the mainland.
Soft coral, hard coral, rock edges and sea caves are major attraction of this
dive site.

- Marine lives: giant grouper, mantis shrimp, giant clam, and diversity of corals
- Underwater visibility: 8-10 meters
Hin Lak Ngam
The rocky outcrop gradually broadens its formation to form reef base and mark the site's location. It is a home of diversified Marine lives. Special characteristic of this site is colorful corals and black coral forest abiding with anemones and sponges.

- Marine lives: Reef fish, barracuda, squids, cowries, variety of nudibranch,
snappers. High opportunity for Bruda whale sighting during February and April.

Hin Pae
The
rocky outcrop 'Hin Pae' is located north of Koh Ngam Yai. The site provides
high opportunity for whale shark sighting. It is a home of sea whips, back corals,
giant clams and sea anemone.

Koh Larn Ped-Larn Kai
This is a small island located on the northern cap of Chumphon Marine National Park. The site's attractions are an underwater cave and an amazing formation of boulders in the area. Some rocks have cluster of seafans, staghorn corals and colorful sea anemone.

Topography
The shape of the province is long and narrow. The west side consists of mountains that are the natural border between Myanmar and Thailand. The central part of the province is a plateau, which is used for agricultural production. The east part of Chumphon lies 222 kilometers long of coastlines with beaches.
Climate
Raining season in Chumphon is last from June to January, while summer season is between February and May. The temperature is not too high in summer and not too low in winter as well.
How to get there
By Car
From Bangkok, use Rama II Road (Highway No.35) via Samut Sakorn and Samut Songkram and turn into Highway No. 4 passing Phetchaburi Province and Prachuap Khiri Khan Province until you reach Pathomphorn Intersection. There, if you turn left, the road will lead you to Chumphon city center. The other possible route is Phrapinklao-Nakhon Charsri Road, via Highway number 4 or Phetkasem Road, passing Nakorn Pathom, Rachaburi until to get to Chumphon.
By Bus
The journey to Chumphon takes 6 hours by regular coach service. At Southern Bus Terminal at Baromrat Chonna Nee Road, there are public and private bus services to Chumphon everyday with 3-4 schedules each day. By Train
There are daily 'Fast trains' and 'Express trains' leave from Bangkok (Hualamphong Trains Terminal) to Chumphon. In addition, there is a 'Diesel train' leaving from Bangkok Noi Station, Thonburi.
