สำหรับการเลือกไฟฉายดำน้ำ แนะนำให้เลือกที่วัสดุคงทน เช่น aluminium, stainless และมีความสว่างพอสมควร ไม่จำเป็นต้องสว่างมากจนปลาตื่นทั้งทะเล เพราะไฟฉายที่สว่างมากเกินไป อาจทำให้สัตว์ทะเลแตกตื่นได้ และอย่าลืมดูว่าไฟฉายที่คุณเลือกใช้แบตเตอรี่ (ถ่าน) ประเภทไหน หาซื้อ/ใช้งานได้สะดวกหรือไม่ ปัจจุบันมีถ่านชาร์จที่ใช้กับไฟฉายได้หลายรุ่น ซึ่งช่วยให้ประหยัดค่าใช้จ่ายในการซื้อถ่านและลดขยะที่เกิดจากการใช้ถ่านที่ใช้ครั้งเดียวทิ้งได้ด้วย แต่หากคุณต้องการใช้ไฟฉายสำหรับถ่ายรูป หรือถ่ายวิดีโอ คุณอาจจำเป็นต้องเลือกไฟฉายที่มีความสว่างมากกว่าปกติ และมีอุปกรณ์สำหรับต่อกับ housing ของกล้องได้ ซึ่งสามารถเลือกดูได้ในหมวดอุปกรณ์ถ่ายภาพค่ะ
